BREMENINTO DFB POKAL THIRD ROUND

German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen are through to the third round of the DfbPokal for this season after their second round win over second tier team Hannover 96. Hannover 96 are in the German Bundesliga II for this season and the difference in the quality showed during their cup game with Werder Bremen.

Hannover 96 were on the ends of a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the German top flight team. Werder Bremen had earlier qualified for the second round of the DfbPokal by beating Carl Zeiss Jena in their first round clash in September 2020. After a goalless first half, American forward Josh Sargent gave Werder Bremen the lead four minutes into the second half before former Manchester United player Tahith Chong came off the bench to wrap up the away win for Werder Bremen two minutes from time.

The first round win over Carl Zeiss Jena ensured that Werder Bremen setup a second round meeting with Hannover 96. Werder Bremen made light work of the tricky game at Hannover 96. Werder Bremen scored three unreplied goals to book their place in the third round of the DfbPokal. Josh Sargent was on target in the first round and he also found the back of the net in the second round victory over Hannover 96. The American footballer scored the second goal of the game after Czech Republic international defender Theodore Gebre Selassie scored the first goal of the game. The first two Werder Bremen goals were scored within three first half minutes of the DfbPokal game played on Wednesday night. Young German midfielder Jean-Manuel Mbom scored the third and final goal of the game in the second half. The emphatic victory was enough to see Werder Bremen into the third round at the expense of their hosts.
